Town centre car parking
Part of the proposed redevelopment site includes a privately owned and operated car park. The car park provides private parking for the three commercial buildings (that are to be demolished as part of the proposals), additional private parking for other commercial buildings in the town centre with the remainder (approximately 60%) available as general "pay and display" spaces. The car park also includes 10 spaces subject to a lease with the Council and these will be retained as part of the proposals.
A town centre wide parking survey has been carried out which examines existing parking demand and supply. This study also takes into account the various changes and other developments that are taking place across the town centre so that future demand and supply can be assessed.
This work has shown that the availability of parking supply across the town centre will always be greater than the parking demand, even at the busiest times of the week.
